The bicycling university student befriended me, when Morrie was ill in Varanasi. With a rickshaw man, I visited the student's home, which consisted of a walled courtyard and two rooms. One room was the kitchen, the other room a shop where the uncle sold 'antiques'. The family sleeps under the stars on the roof of the shop, except in monsoon season when they sleep in the kitchen. The student considered his family to be wealthy - they had their own private courtyard and banana tree.
