Varanasi is the city through which the holy river, Ganga, flows. Hindu people come from all over India to bathe in the river and bring their dead to be cremated and dispersed in the water. This photo was taken very early in the morning when we took a boat along the ghats (stairways down to the river). Some Hindus worship the sun gods as it rises from the river into the sky at dawn and dusk. We saw families clanging cymbals, ringing bells and dropping flower-wreathed candles into the water.
